Caroline
Conlon
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR |
|
Caroline
is a director, actor, translator and performer who began her acting
career with ATOD in 1991. She has performed all over Australia as
well as internationally in New Zealand, Austria, Singapore and the
US. Two appearances on “All Saints” were highlights
given TV opportunities for deaf performers are few and far between.
She has become a legend as a sign-singing performer at many Sydney
social and cultural events. She co-wrote the cabaret show “Dislabelled”
which was staged at the Seymour Centre in Sydney, the Adelaide Cabaret
Festival followed by a two-month Australian-wide tour. Caroline
became artistic director of ATOD at the beginning of 2005. She has
developed a very strong bond with ATOD’s patron and supporter
Todd McKenney, who, with her guidance is learning his second language,
Auslan (Australian sign language).

Michael
Ng
ACTOR |
|
Michael
came out to Australia from Hong Kong with his partner on a 1 year
working holiday in 1999. He took part in a 2 week acting workshop
with ATOD and that was the beginning of his acting career. Every
year since 2000 he has been flying back from Hong Kong to perform
to school students around Australia. We get return bookings from
schools just because Michael is coming back. I get calls from teachers
and students asking “Is Michael coming back this year?"
How Michael communicates and functions in Australia is both a mystery
and extraordinary to the hearing world: his first language is Chinese
sign language, his second language is Cantonese, his third language
is Auslan and his fourth language is written English.

Bethany
Robinson
ACTOR |
|
Bethany
is a 20 year old Deaf girl from Melbourne. She was profiled
in a documentary on SBS last year called “Welcome to My Deaf
World”. It’s a great
profile of a young, vibrant, intelligent girl with a dynamic personality,
a gorgeous smile, doing the HSC, coping with boyfriend troubles,
separated parents (both hearing) and basically living the life of
your average teenager with the added complication of it being in
a deaf world. She is now in her first full time job as an actress
and
living in Sydney. |

Jonathan
Chan
ACTOR |
|
Jonathan is a hearing
actor from Sydney. He first started his training as a singer at
the age of 10 where
he was a boy soprano
in St Mary’s Cathedral Choir and through this discovered a
passion for performing throughout school, appearing in all the school
productions. After high school, he decided to pursue his dreams of
being a professional performer. In 2003 he graduated with a Bachelor
of Creative Arts (Theatre – Performance) from the University
of Wollongong. Since then, he has worked as a singer/actor/dancer
in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera, TV and Children’s Entertainment.
Jonathan is extremely excited to be part of the Australian Theatre
of the Deaf and is deeply honored to be working with Michael and
Bethany, two of
the most inspiring people he has ever met! His favourite aspect of
touring is learning Auslan. |
