The
Work We Do
Each year ATOD produces a dynamic program of shows and
public activities. The core work includes:
School
Shows and Workshops
ATOD produces education shows and workshops designed for the two main
levels of schooling, primary and high school. The school shows are toured
throughout
all
states
of Australia and occasionally New Zealand.
Community
Shows
ATOD produces an annual small stage touring show designed
for the Deaf and hearing community. These shows provide a
canvas for ATOD and the actors alike to experiment with new
drama disciplines and themes. The performances are hosted in
a variety of venues and locations, and therefore are light,
low maintenance productions.
Mainstage
Shows
Every year ATOD produces one major mainstage production.
Dependant upon the play, these productions see an influx of
staff, including actors and production staff. With more
costly sets and cast, the mainstage show is based in one
Sydney venue for 3 week season. The aim of the
mainstage production is to provide further development
opportunities for Deaf actors, expand the Companys audience
and public profile.
Drama Camp
Australian Theatre of the Deaf runs an Annual Drama Camp in visual theatre
and communication. This week long camp is designed to help both hearing
and deaf actors develop and enhance their
visual
communication
and human movement skills.
Interpreted
Theatre
With little opportunity for many Deaf people to enjoy live
theatre, Australian Theatre of the Deaf organises special
interpreted performances of major theatre productions by
other companies.
