The
Cat Lady of Bexley
by Sofya
Gollan

A new play celebrating
the silent world of crime thriller Patricia Carlon.
Patricia
was a reclusive and secretive writer who lived most of her life in Bexley.
For years she avoided meeting publishers, evaded inquisitive journalists
and shunned her fans. It wasn’t until her death in 2002 that the
world learned of Carlon’s deafness – a secret she had kept
since the age of 11.
During her lifetime Carlon was compared to crime literary greats such
as Highsmith and Rendell and film legend Hitchcock. Sofya Gollan’s
new play is a tribute to Carlon. It explores the frustrations that can
come with living in a silent world – partners who talk too fast,
people who take pity on differences and celebrates the freedom that comes
with imagination.
